Feasibility Study Rights Published

The Ministry of Energy Grants 22 Entities Feasibility Study Rights for the GET FiT Zambia Small Hydro tender following a transparent and successful application process.

After the temporary suspension of applications for Feasibility Study Rights (FSR) for small hydro projects of up to 20MW in preparation of the GET FiT tender, the Ministry of Energy (MoE) invited all entities that had pre-qualified for the GET FiT Zambia Small Hydro tender to apply for FSR. Pre-qualified entities that already held FSR were also requested to re-apply for FSR. This way, the MoE could ensure that all FSR were granted through the standardised small hydro FSR Approval Letter.

24 applications were received by the deadline for submission and reviewed by the MoE, supported by the GET FiT Zambia Secretariat. Upon completion of evaluations and the Permanent Secretary’s confirmation of the result, the MoE communicated the outcome of the applications directly to 22 successful entities in mid-September 2019. An overview of all sites that were awarded FSR can be found in the interactive map below.

The entities with active FSR will now be able to carry out feasibility studies on their identified sites in preparation for the GET FiT Zambia Small Hydro tender. The request for proposal (RfP) is scheduled to be launched in the first quarter of 2020.

Through this process, the MoE and the GET FiT Zambia Secretariat have collaborated to establish standardized, transparent and efficient procedures for future FSR processes.
